Idris Elba as the Black James Bond?

Relax ladies, nothing is concrete as of yet. But the idea is fantastic. Not only is he tall, black and sexy, but he’s also a Brit! He’s like the young black Sean Connery (who happened to be my favorite bond). Idris is also a very diverse actor. He has been in Tyler Perry movies (Daddy’s Little Girls) as well as HBO movies (Sometimes in April). He has even been in some horror movies. Now I’m big on horror movies, apparently I like the hell scared out of me. But if I knew that Idris was going to bust through my bedroom and save me from an escaped serial killer stalker who used to be my lab teacher I would gladly risk danger and eminent death!

The role of James Bond is a delicate one. You have to realize that there are specific groups of people who these movies adhere to.

First you have women. Women have always been intrigued by mysterious and sometimes unattainable men. We all secretly want to be damsels in distress. We have the power to seduce, but its only fun to use it on certain men. (I’m going to pay for that one).

Next you have the nerd. Nerds are into Bond because; well he is like a very cool well polished nerd. And he has a fleet of nerds backing him up. I’m sure the biggest nerd in your former H.S. has a James Bond poster on his wall. Who else would think to stick gum on a wall and make it explode? Nerd would like to use their knowledge of technology, electronics, and gadgets and how to manipulate all three simultaneously in order to get the girl and save the world. And there you have James Bond.

Then you have the guys that already think they are James Bond, are sitting back living vicariously through him. They look at the screen and say things like “I can do that...” They do things like wear black tuxedos to club and to church. They hold unlit cigars in their mouths, a glass of whiskey in their hands and wink and ladies when hey walk by. They quote Billy Dee Williams, you know things like that. Gotta love them.

Okay so let me get to the point. On CNN there has been discussion of auditions for the role of Bond. SOMEONE *cough* PUFF *cough* has already thrown his hat in. Auditions for Black Bond I say we make a grass roots push for Idris Elba as the first Black James Bond. We have already established his diverse ability as an actor. No one can dispute the fact that he is one of the most attractive black men walking the earth. He’s a bit mysterious. He already has a British Accent, well because he’s a Brit! I can’t think of anyone else I would enjoy seeing in this role. Nor could I think of a more qualified actor. I think that he will bring a strong following of women, nerds and “too cool” dudes alike.
