The DMV area comes together to raise money for Haitian Earthquake Relief

The past 60 hours have been eye opening to some and life altering to those that have experienced it. An earthquake that registered at 7.0 with aftershocks at 5.0 rocked the capital city of Port-au-Prince Haiti. So far close to, if not more than 50 thousand people have perished. We have seen images of families in peril, children and loved one lost in the rubble and/or dead from the fallen debris. Haiti is one of the poorest islands in the Western Hemisphere despite their abundantly rich culture. They need us.

When God blesses you with a loving spirit it won’t sit still when others are in need. I personally have Haitian friends who are concerned about friends and loved ones on the island. The spark to get things rolling in the DMV started with a tweet from Yodit Gebreyes a young promoter, grad student and exceptional humanitarian from the area.

With that tweet she reached many others and the ending result is the young leaders from the DMV area (DC, Maryland, Virginia) taking time out of their hectic schedules to come together, in an impromptu manner, to come up with a way to lend assistance to those who need it so very much. What will take place will be a series of events designed to raise money to assist with the Haitian Earthquake Relief.

The first of these events will take place on Sunday January 17th 2010 at Bus Boys and Poets located at 2021 14th street. This event will start at 6 pm and last until 11 pm. A $10 donation will include and Open Mic Forum & Live Art show. Artist Demont Peekaso will be doing live art work that will later on be auctioned off. All proceeds will be donated.

I will keep you updated via this blog on the subsequent events. I’m very proud of the area in which I live. This very well could have been our loved ones we are digging out of the rubble. The roof that is keeping you safe and sound could have become your tomb. Natural disasters can occur at any time and any place on this planet. I think we all know that but it may take an event of this magnitude to help us remember.

From Padded Bras to Booty Pop Panties?

Let me start off by asking, who came up with the name for these panties? Anyhoo. For those of you who are still in the dark, let me turn the lights on so you can see what we are all seeing transpire before our very eyes. Yes, ladies, you too can have a J-Lo! Who wants to go through the expensive task of getting butt implants. Who wants to go through the grueling squats to get your butt to "poke" out just right? Why not buy some loaded draws?! Booty Pop Panties? The name alone. I can't.

The image above shows you a before and after. I feel comfortable with saying that if you arent wearing jeans, that after may look like you are wearing a nice thick pair of depends. I guess it is the same as all of the body shapers and spanx etc that give the illusion of things coming all together perfectly. But, something about "booty pop panties" just sends me into a spiral. What if they dont adjust right? What if they end up lop sided? What if your man's hand wanders and he thinks he's with sponge bob. YIKES ladies, lets think about this a second.

I think these are made for smaller women with the desire for a more "defined" rear. I'm sure if you were wider with wide hips and a flat but they would make it look like you had two whoppers in your back pocket. ILK.

They come in lots of colors, and are sized by level of "sweetness"...I'm assuming that is just for the pleausure of the wearer not the viewer. Some dude is gonna get his feelings hurt behind this. I've already seen club pictures with "butt pads" exposed. ZOINKS!

This reminds me of the lady on "I'm Gonna Get You Sucka"..once he got her home she took off the wig, teeth and her leg! #FRAUD

To each her own...stay bootylicious!

Cleaning out my purse....

Re-Post from 1/12/08

Every now and then, you have to clean out your purse. It doesnt take alot of time for the clutter to build up. You can find outdated receipts, empty tubes of lip gloss, paperclips, bobby pins you name it in the bottom of a "dirty purse". Even though I change up my purses often, I can stand to thouroughly clean each one of them out. Sometimes if I need a quarter I will go ravaging through one of my purses and alas! There it is. I tore my whole house up one time looking for some very expensive tweezers, only to find them months later in the front flap pocket of Gucci Messenger bag that I hadnt worn since the summer. (Purse plug ;) )
Sometimes we have to clean out our lives like women clean out a purse. Sometimes there are things we are holding on to that are useless that we need to be rid of. I have walked around mad for hours for someone cutting me off in traffic. There may be a person that you can't for the life of you figure out why you still deal with on any level, yet they are still around just cluttering up your purse. You may need to clean out some of the issues that other folks are having that they keep throwing into your "bag". You may be holding on to that job for reasons you can't figure out, blocking the opportunity for something better.
When you finally clean out your purse, and organize its contents; You know, all the bits and pieces in their right place, you can look down in it and find what you need when you need it. Clean out your purse as much as you need to, just dont let it get too cluttered again ;)

Sometimes you have to revisit the past..I re-loaded this entry for myself as well as others...I'm about to find a grocery bag to use for trash and get to work ;)
